Kathryn Shugg

Committee Member

Residing in Moruya since 2017, Kathryn boasts a distinguished 34-year career in the Australian Public Service (APS).

Initially trained as a primary school teacher in the early 1980s, Kathryn transitioned into the APS where she worked to effect positive change on a national scale in areas that she is passionate about including Early Childhood Education and Child Care, Vocational Education, Adult Literacy and Indigenous Affairs.

Throughout her tenure, Kathryn led national consultation processes, developed national strategic policies, managed large national funding programs and negotiated COAG agreements.

Her advocacy is deeply rooted in personal experiences as a caregiver for family members with chronic conditions, driving her commitment for systemic improvements in the healthcare and social support sectors, particularly in the under-serviced areas of the Eurobodalla.

“The disconnect between services within and between the health and social support sectors, and the inability of the different parts of the system to work together across disciplines in the interests of the individual patient, has had a significant impact on our lives over many years. And it is more pronounced since we moved to the Eurobodalla – where in many cases services are not even available.”

Since retiring, Kathryn has dedicated herself to community service, volunteering for the Cancer Council as well as supporting an elderly family member in accessing cancer treatments and aged care support.

Her ongoing commitment underscores her belief in the urgent need for cohesive, wraparound services for vulnerable individuals, particularly those living in regional areas.
