Let's talk about death and dying event
30 July 2024
Community members are invited to a free information event in Shellharbour on 7 August to learn, ask questions, and feel empowered to openly and compassionately explore topics related to death and dying.
Are you prepared to start a conversation with loved ones about your palliative and end of life wishes? Have you discussed what living well means to you and to them, and who should speak for you if you could no longer communicate your end of life wishes or make your own health care decisions?
The Shellharbour information session is being organised to coincide with Dying to Know Day, a national annual campaign that’s aimed at shifting the narrative around death, dying and end of life planning.
Ms Prue Buist, CEO of COORDINARE - South Eastern NSW PHN, said: “We are supporting local communities to create safe spaces to talk openly about dying and to provide opportunities to educate and build awareness around end-of-life choices.
“The event in Shellharbour on 7 August aims to help our community feel supported and inspired to share their final arrangement wishes and help to dismantle the misconception that end-of-life planning must be a solitary endeavour,” said Ms Buist.
“Together we can break down the stigma and sense of awkwardness associated with conversations about death, dying and grief and to reduce fear surrounding death.
